On November 10th, the owners of k-Bee Leotards received devastating news that their granddaughter Austyn Paige had been suffering seizures and probably had a brain bleed. Since then, Austyn has undergone numerous EKGs, EEGs, and a full body MRI, where neurologists found four tumors in her brain, two on her heart, some in her eyes, and some on her skin.
At just ten weeks old, Austyn was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in many different vital organs throughout the body. Austyn’s neurologist has been focused on finding effective seizure medications to treat her seizures, which can be as frequent as only eight minutes apart.
Austyn is currently on the highest dose of what doctors believe are the best seizure meds for her, meds that cost a couple thousand dollars a month. Her neurologist is also working to find the best treatment for the tumors in Austyn’s brain. There is possibility Austyn will receive tumor reducing drugs, which essentially is chemotherapy, or surgery to remove the tumors, which will not be viable until Austyn is at least six months old.
